Ionian yacht charter: Discover the hidden gems

The Ionian Sea has been well known to the sailing enthusiasts for decades. Yachts and catamarans are to be found everywhere in the bays of Corfu, Zakynthos and Kefalonia during the summer season. An Ionian yacht charter is popular even among newbies in sailing. Does that mean that you will not be able to enjoy some solitude and peace of mind? Not to worry! There are still places to make the most of a serene sailing experience.

Meganisi

Meganisi is a picturesque lush green island with three settlements (Spartochori, Vathi, Katomeri) and beautiful beaches located opposite Nydri, Lefkas. The traditional architecture, the hospitable residents, the quite life, the magnificent sceneries, the bays with the fish taverns and entertainment shops, the green landscapes and the crystal waters, create an ideal place for the most relaxing summer holidays. Porto Spilia is one of the main ports in Meganisi, crowded with private yachts and smaller boats, a charming must-see location of the island. Visit the islets of Kastos, Kalamos and Prigkiponisa, explore the cave of Papanikolis and swim around Skorpios island (once owned by the famous Aristotle Onasis).

Ithaki

Worldwide famous as the home of Odysseus, Ithaca symbolizes the return to the Haven, the discovery and the fulfillment. Despite its proximity to Kefalonia, (2km northeast) it is much more peaceful, quiet and undiscovered. The Cave of the Nymph will give you the chance to combine an exciting visit with a myth: Odysseus had hidden there the gifts he had brought along from the land of the Phaeacians. The beach lovers will take pleasure in a multitude of choices covering all tastes, from sand to pebbles, from rocky to green backgrounds, from peaceful to busy ones. Vathi is the capital of the island and home to the Maritime and Folkloric Museum as well as to the Archaeological Museum of Ithaca. It is built on a bay in the center of which you will find the tiny little island of Lazarétto, a former sanatorium and prison. Ithaca, together with the Echinades isles – forms a marvelous area for an Ionian yacht charter. The Echinades islands were named after the sea urchin (Echinoidea) describing their sharp and prickly coastlines. Atokos Island is uninhabited but provides two beautiful anchorages.

Sivota Thesprotias

Sivota is an old fishing village, a harbor town where many yachts moor not only for its unparaller beauty but also because of its short distance to several popular Ionian islands such as Corfu and Lefkada. Sivota is surrounded by hills which are covered with pine, cypress and olive trees. The coast is characterized by rocky coves, beautiful bays with fine and elongated sand/pebble beaches. The center with numerous cafes and restaurants is situated next to the harbor. From the terraces you can watch the lovely sailboats. Off the coast of Sivota is the islet of Mourtemeno, where you will be impressed by an amazing beach Bella Vraka reachable from Syvota via a walk through shallow water.
