Undiscovered destinations for a Cyclades yacht charter

cyclades yacht charter

Cyclades is the most famous island group in Greece and the Aegean Sea. It is also one of the most popular sailing destinations in the world. The marinas and the docks at Santorini and Mykonos, Paros and Naxos are often overcrowded making a Cyclades yacht charter sometimes less of a pleasant experience, especially for people who favor privacy and serenity. But with 27 islands and many more islets, Cyclades has many offbeat destinations for sailing fans.

Folegandros

Folegandros is like a rough diamond shining under the Aegean sun, waiting to be discovered! Its beauty is simply astonishing. You will know what we mean when you will see for the first time the its whitewashed Chora with its old Castle (Kastro), a medieval-era district featuring old white houses joined wall-to-wall. You will be charmed. Take in the breathtaking view of the Aegean Sea from the super romantic Church of Panagia, which sits on the highest spot of the island. Chryssospilia Cave is an impressive natural monument, reachable only by boat. The findings in the cave include ancient remains and beautiful stalactites. Livadaki bay is one of the many breathtaking places you can go for a dip.

Amorgos

The island of “The Big Blue”; the iconic 1988 Luc Besson film was shot here. The director chose Amorgos for its very special scenery: mountains, cliffs ideal for climbing, terraces, and picturesque coves with lovely, crystal clear waters. Parts of the island rise a considerable height above sea level, offering superb views over the Archipelago. The island’s top attraction is the 10th century cliffside Monastery of the Virgin Mary ‘Panagia Hozoviotissa’. Along the lively waterfront of Aigiali, a fishing village, you will find many cafes and restaurants. Chora is the capital and is considered among the most beautiful villages in the Cyclades, with whitewashed houses, flowered and paved alleys and lovely restaurants… it just cannot be missed.

Antiparos

The islet of Antiparos, lying southwest of Paros, is ideal for a relaxed and serene holiday. West of Antiparos there are three uninhabited islets that once used to be significant cultural centers of the Cycladic civilization (Despotiko, Tsimintiri and Strongylo). Chóra town of Antiparos was built around a 15th century Venetian castle (Kastro). At the entrance of stands the Folklore Museum. Antiparos beaches are known for their clear, azure waters and peaceful ambiance, making them a dream destination for a Cyclades yacht charter. Do not miss a dip at ‘Psaraliki’ & ‘Soros’ beaches, while ‘Volos’ beach is a great place to enjoy a gorgeous sunset. In the cave of Antíparos (90 m. deep) you will see marvelous stalagmite and stalactite formations; in fact you will find the oldest stalagmite in Europe!

Polyaigos & Kimolos

Polyaigos is the largest uninhabited island of the Aegean sea (right next to Kimolos), an ideal spot for bird-watching with magnificent beaches that resemble natural swimming pools. It is also home to the Mediterranean Seal ‘Monachus Monachus’. Kimolos has been a rising star during the last few years. Kastro is the most picturesque quarter of Chorio, the capital village of Kimolos. Besides the beach next to the port, all the other beaches around the island are secluded and offer privacy. Agios Georgios and Prasa are the best beaches in Kimolos. For those of you who are into thermal springs, go to the beaches of Ayioklima, Prasa (where they used to excavate chalk), Therma and Kastro, an impressive beach with red stones.
